Determining the direction of the trend on forex
What you will learn today will be something you can use throughout your entire trading career. All trading strategies can benefit from knowing the trend direction and the reason for this the simple direction If you trade in same direction as the major trend, your trading will be much more accurate. When you trade against the trend you will struggle like a determining trying to swim upstream. You should always include trend direction the part of your trading plan, even if you are a range trader! If you are a counter-trend trader you should also try to trade in the direction of the major trend and only counter trade the short-term trend. I know there are a lot of fancy indicators that claim to be the best at determining the trend, however, I have found them useless. There are only 2 things I use to determine trend direction — price and the exponential moving average EMA. When the price is above the EMA the trend is up and when the price trend below the EMA the trend is down. If you feel like you are always on the wrong side of the market, or if your trades are resulting in a poor risk:reward direction, try using this method and keep your trades on the correct side the the trend.
