NT NETWORK PANAJI The probe kamaxi Economic Offence Cell EOC of the Goa police into the multi-crore investment fraud forex revealed that the firm was conducting banking operations illegally. Sources in the police informed that the firm in question, Kamakshi Forex has permission from the Reserve Bank of India RBI for running a foreign curArency exchange but not for collecting and depositing money. A report in this connection will be submitted to the RBI, the sources informed. According to the police, it is not clear as to from when the firm begun accepting money from investors by assuring high returns. The police informed that Nilesh Raikar is the main accused in this multi-crore investment fraud and is on the run. It is learnt that kamaxi accused fraud to accept money Indian and foreign currency and had assured high returns. The investors were given post-dated cheques, depending on the maturity of the invested amount. Fraud Friday, around investors have lodged complaints with the EOC and the total amount is said to be around Rs 17 crore. The number of complaints has now increased. The total number of complainants investors has now reachedhowever, the amount is being ascertained. The fraud came to light few days back when cheques of some of the investors, who were forex post-dated cheques by the main accused Raikar, had bounced and the Kamakshi Forex office in Margao was found closed. There are also two more offices, one in Panaji and another in Calangute, which too are closed. The EOC on Friday has registered offences kamaxi sections, B of the IPC against Nilesh Raikar and directors of Kamakshi Forex for criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and cheating several depositors to the tune of crores of rupees. The FIR was lodged based on the complaints lodged by the depositors.
